Some frequently asked questions

What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of hypnosis, allowing for effortless change & helping you to improve the quality of your life.

Hypnotherapy, and in particular self-hypnosis, can help you manage and cope more effectively with the pressures and stresses of today’s highly demanding working environment. As a skilled professional hypnotherapist, Jenny can help you use the state of hypnosis to bring about the positive new changes that you want & find acceptable.

What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of heightened awareness in which you are neither asleep nor unconscious. It is just a pleasant, natural state of relaxation that everyone experiences during daydreaming, falling asleep, and 'automatic' driving when you suddenly realise that you haven't been aware of driving for the last ten minutes, or when you are totally engrossed & absorbed in a really good book & don’t ‘hear’ the doorbell.

How does it work?
It is helpful to think of the sub-conscious as a computer running a programme that has been made in response to a situation or something that has happened once, or maybe many times in the past. Then when your situation changes or you no longer wish to continue as before, you find that the unhelpful programme still keeps running and running.
In hypnosis, you can access the sub-conscious computer, identify the program that needs changing & then update or modify it yourself to make the positive adjustments required.

What does it feel like?
A very pleasant lethargy, as if you are relaxing in a very comfortable place with your eyes closed. Your limbs may feel heavy and are often reluctant to move, although of course they can move. Here the mind can just drift in easy relaxation or turn its attention to new positive ways of working.

You have full awareness the whole time & are conscious of everything going on around you as well as what your
sub-conscious is revealing to you. It’s rather like being so totally absorbed it a great book that you become completely oblivious to everything else going on around you.

In fact you are unlikely to feel hypnotised as such; you will probably just experience a feeling of mental and physical relaxation.

Can anyone be hypnotised?
Yes! However you must want it to happen, no one can hypnotise you against your will. Hypnosis is a 100% consent state. You always have control of your mind, in fact you would be immediately woken from the hypnotic state should you hear anything that you didn't like.
