Background to coaching
Coaching today has its origins in psychology and sports coaching and from this has now emerged the benefits of coaching people in every walk of life, although the skills of coaching themselves go back more than 2000 years to the Greek philosopher Socrates.

So what is coaching?
Coaching looks at:
• What is right with people rather than what is wrong.
• Enhancing performance and promoting action that leads to achievement.
• Focusing on your potential and not problems
• Helping successful individuals to become even more so.
The term “life coaching” is now more commonly called Performance Coaching and I work with individuals in the following areas:
• Assertiveness
• Building relationships
• Career development
• Confidence
• Decision making
• Goals, work and personal
• Executive skills % Interview success
• Leadership skills
• Performance anxiety
• Problem Solving
• Resilience to stress
• Stress and anxiety
• Work/Life balance
How does coaching work?
A skilled Coach is not a wise expert with all the answers, but is skilled in being able to draw the answers out from you through powerful questioning. Coaching will also provide the tools and encouragement to enable you to work out meaningful answers for yourself.
• Coaching uses techniques and easy strategies so you can move from where you are today, to where you want to be drawing on resources you were not aware of.
• Coaching allows you to talk with someone who will take a focused interest in you, is independent and unbiased which may not always be possible with friends, family or colleagues.
• Coaching provides an opportunity for you to think through your options and decide on your actions and goals using exercises to help clarify your style, beliefs and communication skills.
• Coaching is a supportive way of encouraging and facilitating positive changes and choices that you want, bringing about an overall sense of wellbeing and helps to balance different aspects of your life.
My style of working
I use a cognitive behavioural coaching approach (CBC) which is adapted from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This approach recognises that the way we think influences the way we feel and behave in the choices we make in life, career and relationships. So too, CBC is often more useful in working with any stress, anxiety, lack of confidence or overcoming obstacles and stumbling blocks to your desired changes or goals.
My relaxed style and down to earth approaches are provided in an understanding and non-judgemental way, helping you to discover your strengths, limitations and motivations for change.
